Design Philosophy

As a technology based light source expert, we were prone to be too technical and overly complicated. On the other hand, if we only play with external shapes and create an objet, we would not be able to fully utilize our core competence. So it was very important from the beginning that we pursue a perfect synchronization between design and technology to come up with a product in which everything fits together in harmony.

Every corner of THE NEW LAMP has a story and reason. For example, the unique oval shaped lamp head was derived to accommodate the optical shift mechanism and, in turn, became an iconic part of the lamp design.

Design and Technology in Sync

For ergonomic reasons, we firmly believed that the control knob should be on the base not on the head as in most LED lamps. But it means much more complicated engineering due to a long- distance communication between the LED and the user interface.

The complexity has been taken care of with the use of gold-plated precision pogo pins made in Switzerland. Simple plug and play assembly establishes a reliable electrical connection between the base and the lamp head without any exposed wires resulting in a clean and minimalistic look.

Design Plus organized by Messe Frankfurt and the German Design Council has been honoring pioneering products in design, ecology and innovation since its establishment in 1983. The German Design Council is one of the world’s leading centers of expertise in communication and knowledge transfer within design, branding and innovation, and has been operating since 1953, and is one of the world's leading professional institutions in communication and knowledge transfer in the fields of design, brand and innovation. Light+Building is the world's largest architectural and lighting trade fair, held every two years in Frankfurt, Germany.

Red Dot Award

In 2023, BAENUE The New Lamp won the Red Dot Design Award for its excellence
and creativity in design. The Red Dot Design Award is one of the world’s largest
design competitions and the Red Dot Label has become one of the most sought-after marks of quality for good design.

BAENUE The New Lamp is exhibited at the Red Dot Design Museum in Essen,
Germany.
