Dim2Amber™

Light and Circadian Rhythm

The circadian rhythm is the body’s internal process that regulates the 24-hour sleep-wake cycle, operating in harmony with the natural shifting of sunlight.

However, modern individuals spend over 87% of their lives indoors under artificial illumination (Klepeis et al., 2001). During the day, we live in dim interiors with less than one-hundredth the intensity of natural sunlight, while at night, we are exposed to artificial light up to 1,000 times brighter than nature's true darkness.

This profound imbalance—insufficient light by day and excessive exposure by night—disrupts the body's natural circadian rhythm, contributing to sleep degradation, weakened immunity, and mood disorders (Bass and Lazar, 2016; Panda, 2016; Stevens et al., 2014).

Melatonin and Dim2Amber™ Technology

Melatonin, the essential hormone secreted at night to regulate the body’s 24-hour circadian rhythm, is uniquely sensitive to light spectrums. In particular, light within the 470nm wavelength band most powerfully suppresses melatonin secretion, triggering an alerting, wakeful effect (Moore-Ede et al., 2020).

Going beyond merely dimming light intensity, BAENUE developed an innovative light source that dynamically controls the specific spectrum governing melatonin production. This proprietary, patented breakthrough is Dim2Amber™.

Dim2Amber™ technology delivers a crisp, rich white light at maximum brightness to elevate focus and productivity. As the dial lowers the illumination to a medium level, the spectrum seamlessly transitions into an elegant, warm white. At its lowest setting, it transforms into a pure amber glow engineered for deep relaxation.

By meticulously filtering out the exact wavelengths that disrupt melatonin, BAENUE’s amber light nurtures the body’s natural hormone release and guides users into restorative sleep. Simultaneously, it preserves the visual acuity required to read or discern objects clearly, delivering the ultimate nighttime lighting environment that eliminates the side effects of artificial light.

What is the M/P Ratio?

The M/P (Melanopic/Photopic) Ratio is the definitive metric used to evaluate the biological impact of light on human health and well-being, including alertness, relaxation, and sleep. A high M/P ratio is recommended during the day when vitality is required, while a low M/P ratio is essential at night to support restorative sleep.

Dim2Amber™ technology allows users to drastically modulate this M/P ratio through a single, intuitive dimming dial. This is a proprietary, patented breakthrough—distinguished from conventional lighting that merely alters color temperature—achieved through smart spectral engineering that precisely targets the melatonin-regulating wavelength.
